I bought this VCR because I needed something to use at school. I wanted to make sure the VCR I bought was high quality and would last for a long time. So far, this VCR hasn't shown me any problems.
Quality:
My main goal in picking a VCR was quality of picture. This Sony VCR delivers high quality. It is a 4 head, Hi-Fi Stereo VCR. It is just as good quality as most of the higher model Sony VCRs and costs much less.
Features:
The main difference with higher models (such as a Sony SLV-7xxHF) is that they typically have more features. For example, this model has only one RCA/composite line-in and one RCA/Composite line-out. It doesn't have the front A/V jacks either. However, I don't see this as a major problem unless you have lots of other A/V devices that you want to route through this VCR. It also has the standard coaxle (cable) in and out lines. It also has basic features such as slow motion, 2x playback and high speed rewind.
Ease of Use:
This VCR has enough features to make it easy to use. For example it has auto clock so that after you set the clock once, even after unplugging it to move it or after a power outage, the VCR still remembers the time. It also has VCR+ making it easy to record TV programs and auto tracking for when playing tapes. The menus are full screen, colorful, easy to use, and very intuitive. The remote is not too cluttered and can be switched for use with a Sony TV.
Drawbacks:
One of the main disadvantages with this VCR is its size. Since it is smaller than most VCRs, I don't feel comfortable placing a large TV on top of it. If you do not plan on placing your TV on top of the VCR, this isn't a problem at all.
Conclusion:
If you're looking for a high quality VCR either for playback or maybe for copying tapes and aren't concerned about extra features, I would recommend getting this VCR.
