This VCR does it all and more. The SmartFile system remembers what you record, so you can forget. Just pick up a tape, hold it in front of the VCR, and it tells you what shows you recorded and what day and time they were on. The rewind speed is 10x faster than my last VCR. With a Sony DirecTV receiver, you can set the show to record on the DirecTV unit, and the VCR will tape the show, and label the beginning with the show title, and put the information on the SmartFile label. No cable or VCR mouse is required. The only issue I have with this VCR is the noise of the motor. During a quiet passage in a show or movie, you can hear the sound of the motor. Even so, I would recommend this VCR to anyone who doesn't like not knowing what is on all those unlabeled tapes.
