Pros: Price, HIFI, Picture Quality, Ease of using. Auto Picture control,
Cons: Remote is too cluttered, Not good for tape editing (Used as a second VCR)
The Bottom Line: It's definitely a great buy. The price is certainly right. However, if need to use it for video editing, this is not the VCR for you.

| sblover's Full Review: JVC HR-A53 VHS VCR |
I just recently bought this VCR last Friday and I don't know whether to Love it or Hate it. It plays videos beautifully, the quality is outstanding. The sound quality was great. It even played some of my old tapes, which my expensive Panasonic VCR couldn't play. The setup was pretty painless. One annoying thing was the plug and play feature didn't seem to work. So I manually tuned all the channels and set the time which was pretty simple too. The instruction book takes you through the process step by step. I'm never one to read unless I really need to and I think I could have installed this without even looking at the book. Another annoying thing is you have to press play all the time to stop it from pausing, rewinding or forwarding. A great feature of this VCR is it allowed you to set the picture control which will automatically fix the tracking on the tape you are playing to get the best picture possible. This is by far my favorite feature. It also had a shuttle remote which allowed you to watch the tape scene by scene in slow motion (I really had no use for this and don't see the need for it, but I hear some people like this feature) Even after all it's faults, I was still pretty much in love with this machine. Since it had only cost me 54 dollars, I thought I would buy another one to hook up with it and edit some tapes. After I bought it I hooked it up to the VCR. I started testing out the quality of the recording and was shocked to find how horrible the copied picture was. You couldn't even see the faces of the people talking. It made all the images so dark it was impossible to watch. I was totally disappointed with this. I used to have 2 Panasonic VCRS and their picture quality was superb in comparison. To make a long story short I kept one and returned the other one. This VCR is great for watching tapes on it. However editing with it isn't worth the Money!!
