| gjc17's Full Review: JVC HR-A53 VHS VCR |
As old and outdated as this VCR is, it is still more than worth its salt. From the inventor of VHS comes this reliable HiFi, 4-Head VCR. Excellent for recording(playback looks great on any other brandname VCR), this product features PRO-CISION 19micron head technology. Playback, however, on this unit deteriorates over time even with the use of wet/dry head cleaners. Nonetheless, it remains useful for producing quality recordings, timered or at the drop of a hat.
I remember going out to buy this product and what I had in mind for my first VCR. I knew that JVC was a brand that had always and continue to trust. I knew that the VCR I would purchase had to be 4-Head and HiFi, because anything less just looks and sounds horrible. But I also knew that I could not afford one of the many SuperVHS models that JVC offers. So this VCR seemed like the obvious choice.
When I first compared my VCR to my family's older JVC VCR, I was amazed at how quickly this HR-A53U could switch between tape operations. It was more than twice as fast as our other VCR in initiating playback, pausing, and recording. And something unheard of to my household, being able to not only advance a paused frame but also to toggle to previous frames quickly and easily! The only thing that disappointed me, was the lack of a VCR display, nothing like the one I so admired on my family's old VCR; just red and green lights with labels...
Anyone who trusts JVC as much as I do and needs a VCR that will record quickly and reliably should buy this product.
