I have a Panasonic PV-8451 VCR. People always joke about programming their VCR, but I found programming a snap with this model. Just click a button on the Universal Remote and enter the date, time and channel, and you're done! You can enter up to eight timed recording sessions. When you use the timer, you have to turn off the TV and VCR, and remember to keep them turned off, or the recording won't start. The recordings are of high quality, even in SLP mode. Rewind and Fast Forward are indeed fast, and the pause and slow options perform very well. There is also an index search feature, which forwards the tape to a selected recording. You can also plug this VCR into a stereo amplifier. I like the Universal remote for the most part, although occasionally my son gets confused and switches the mode from VCR to TV and then changes the channel with the TV remote, and it takes me a while to get everything back on track.
