| DJC750's Full Review: Samsung VR3609 VHS VCR |
This VCR has an impressive list of features for such a low price. As a rule of thumb, this is bad. If the price is low, and the function list long, this means that the company has to scrape the money away from somewhere else. In this case, it's the quality of the product.
The remote is nice, and it allows you to do some very useful things from the comfort of your armchair. One of the highly hyped, but completely useless ones is the remote eject button. If you eject the tape from your chair, you still have to get up to pull it out. The fact that the included remote is a universal one is very nice and useful. This does not last, however, as the poor quality of remote causes it to break easily. The buttons get stuck, and the case easily cracks open. The actual VCR is no better, from buttons breaking, to tapes getting stuck inside the VCR.
The programmable record function is useful and looks good on paper. In actuality, however, while that programming to tape something isn't too hard, programming the date can be quite a problem. The date is supposed to set itself automatically. This does not always happen, as was the case with my VCR. Leaving me to attempt to figure out how to do it manually. The manual is no help in this area, as it is too convoluted to give anyone any understanding of what they have to do.
The ability to slow down the picture is fun, but useless except in the very rare occasion. Now while it is useful in these few occasions, it really isn't worth the trouble or expense to use it once every two years.
The general quality of this VCR has caused the store where I bought it to refuse to repair it. Samsung is even less helpful, as they first claim that the fault is not their product, and then when you are able convince them to repair it (two months in my case), they are VERY slow in returning their product. (I'm still waiting for it back, after 3 months.)
Overall, this product is complete junk. I would save your money from buying this woefully poor product. It would be better spent on a product with fewer features, but a higher quality.
