| AndrewCip's Full Review: Aiwa AM-HX30 Personal MiniDisc Player |
Mini Discs are the cutting edge in portable audio products, and this player far surpasses portable CD players in sound quality, and convenience. The player is small enough to fit in your pocket, and has a very handy control extension that can clip anywhere you want to allow you to control the music. The Aiwa MiniDisc is great for making mixes and is an excellent product overall.
FEATURES:
The Aiwa MiniDisc player comes with many outstanding features. It is small enough to fit in your pocket, and the convenient control extension can clip anywhere and has a great lighting system making it easier to control in the dark. The system is extremely lightweight, and has a sleek appearance. The functions that this player is capable of include a repeat function, track programming, digital linear bass control, and track search. The player also includes a convenient backup battery attachment in case the 21 hour rechargable battery runs out. Also, you can buy an adapter to plug into your MiniDisc player to drag MP3s directly from your computer to make 74 minute mixes with track titles on re-writable MiniDiscs. Re-writable MiniDiscs are the best for making mixes from CDs or MP3s. You can move around the order of the tracks, delete one track and replace it, or delete the whole disc and make a new mix. The discs are solid and do not scratch like a CD. They are very small, and come with convenient hard cases. The Aiwa MiniDisc comes with a small black pouch to store your player and about three MiniDiscs.
SOUND QUALITY:
The Aiwa MiniDisc player puts the Sony Discman to shame. The music quality is outstanding, although the volume control is limited and its maximum volume of 20 is not all that loud. The best thing about the MiniDisc is that you can listen to you mixes UNINTERRUPTED. It NEVER skips and that is music to my ears. The bass function is pretty good, but limited. The Aiwa MiniDisc offers an excellent, quality sound. The player sounds excellent, and never has any scratches and does not skip at all.
PROBLEMS:
There are only a few problems that I have with this system. The SWOOP headphones that the player comes with look cool, but are uncomfortable and mine broke shortly after the second week I had them. Another minor problem is that because they are not as widely marketed as CDs, blank MiniDiscs are expensive. The high-quality re-writable formatted MiniDiscs cost $25 for a five-pack. But this steep price is understandable because the discs are re-writable and they last. When one mix gets old, you can just make a new one!
OVERALL:
The player is extremely portable and convenient. It sounds great, and NEVER skips a beat. The MiniDiscs are solid and do not scratch. The player is excellent for making mixes and its features allow you to arrange and re-arrange the tracks however you like. The re-writable discs are great, and I highly recommend this PAP (portable audio product) to anyone who is looking for a high quality, affordable and reliable player.
