| metlfan13's Full Review: Sharp MD-MS702 Personal MiniDisc Player |
Well i bought this MD because of both the price and the look. Well looks can be decieving, because this minidisc has been the biggest waste of cash i've ever spent. I bought it back in May of 2000, with the money i got for my birthday (also in May). I was interested in a MD player ever since my friend got one, and wanted one of my own. I looked around for prices and got one new off Egghead.com for around $140. I was very pleased with it at first, but began to notice all its downsides. First of all, the size and weight is way too much. Try to jog or run in this thing in your pocket and it will either pull your pants down or tear a hole in your pocket. Another problem is the front loading design, which is great in some ways, but just adds to the size in the end. Well all that aside, it was great until about September, when it started to screw up. I set it to record a Metallica cd while i took a shower. So i came out and watched a little TV until it had finished .When i tried to play it, i noticed that the motor was grinding or somthing from the inside. Well when i looked at the wonderful warranty that Sharp provides with their products, i noticed that it was a whopping 3 months. Gee, mine broke going into the 4th month, so i was pretty angry to say the least. I tried to contact both Sharp and Egghead, and their reply took another week, which didn't help the situation any, because it was technically still in my 3rd month. So after i got my mail, it was just in the 4th, and they said i would have to pay to get it fixed. THIS SUCKS. The MSRP on the Sharp MD-MS702 is like $300 and they provide a crappy 3 month warranty on it. But it still played, it just sounded like somebody was ramming a screwdriver in the motor every time it played. Well not long after that, it stopped playing completely, and now its a cool looking paperweight. Sure the sound was good while it worked, but who wants to pay that kind of money for somthing that lasts for 3 months. And i never dropped it or misused it in any way, and actually only used it like 20 times. I only payed $140 for it, which was still alot of cash for me to save up, and i was steamin mad when it broke. Imagine if I payed the MSRP for it and it broke then. I'm thinking about getting another one now, but a Sony this time. They have a 1 year warranty on their parts. I advise everyone to steer far away from this MD. Sure it looks all neat with the lit up remote and shiny front and such, but now mine looks neat sitting at the bottom of the trash can. DO NOT BUY!
