| cnbmis's Full Review: Sharp MD-MS702 Personal MiniDisc Player |
This versatile little unit offers many nice features for remote recording activities. It accepts microphone, line or optical inputs and has adjustable record level with metering. Most of the unit's functions are duplicated on a small, backlit, wired remote that is inline with the headphones. Recording concerts, speeches or other events can be done with high quality and little effort. The compression quality of MiniDisc is superior to MP3; scarcely detectable in any type of recording. I have been involved in live audio recording for over ten years, primarily using DAT, with some use of open reel decks. Having MiniDisc at my side would have provided an excellent backup, and given me the ability to deliver a preliminary copy of a concert immediately with no conversion. MiniDisc players & recorders are finding their way into the mainstream and are at a price point that squares well against MP3. The editing capabilities of MiniDisc are incredible when compared with those of DAT, and offer so many options for the casual "Party Mix" recordings or serious editing and manipulation for use in documentary or rough audio work.
