| tjmilndesign's Full Review: Sharp MD-MS722 Personal MiniDisc Player |
Hey! Welcome to my review of the Sharp MD-MS722 MiniDisc player! As a professional DJ myself, I am always moving about, and love music. This is the perfect addition, (not to mention a really cool toy!), to any music listeners gadgets. Talk about a techies dream, I run an Internet design company, own a DJ company, and also work for a Fortune 500 software company. I am 15, and love toys, especially high tech ones! With my jobs I get to use new great things everyday and this is certainly one of them! The discs hold 74 minutes of music apiece, and are extremely cheap, which is great. They are about $1 or so per disc. This is a major advantage to MP3 players, which use memory cards costs up to $100 for a 32 MB stick! (Ouch!) Also, with MP3 players, you can't change the memory card on the go (unless you have a sony memory stick player, but they are also very expensive). With a MiniDisc player you just pop in another minidisc and enjoy another hour and fifteen minutes of clear, digital music! This thing sounds great. Especially if you use the digital optical in the minidisc recorder, one feature I expecially like. Works really well if you have a digital optical out on your sound card like I do. One of the reasons Ii bought this guy was because of the digital input, very few others seem to have this. This is also a player/recorder which is better than having a seperate recorder, which is a huge pain. I highly recommend this product. Anyways, enough rambling, lets take a look at some of its features.
Sound: This minidisc player has the best sound I have ever heard. The digital optical input makes almost perfect sound with a signal to noise ration almost unmeasurable. The analog recording also has a very low signal to noise ratio. The sound overall gets an A+ from me.
Size: Yea, yea. Its not the slimest minidisc you can buy. But, it is one of the best :-) It may be a bit big, but it's still much smaller than a CD player. It's also not too small, which is good in a way. You wont loose it and its easy to find. (I'm not the most organized person in the world.) It's a bit heavier then other minidisc players aswell, but its not very heavy at all. Less then a CD player definately.
Features: The feautres are great. It has a digital optical input for great sound (see Sound above for further info.) It also has a slide in disc insertion. Nothing pops up like a CD player, it just slides into the hole. This makes it much more durable, and frankly, with the door open on other models, I'm scared they might break off. A great design! It also has mahy track naming features and different shuffle and repeat modes for a awesome music experiance!
Capacity: This thing holds 74 minutes to a disc! Amazing! When you want more, just pop in another disc! Not like MP3 players with only 32 or 64 MB of storage which you cant replace. Once songs are in, they're stuck! Changeable media means more songs, period.
Recording: Yes, for this piece of equipment you must wait till the song plays through on your sound card, but with its features its worth it. A minidisc 'burner' to make minidisc quickly would be nice however. If your one who doesn't like to wait to send files to your device, get an MP3 player, but I dont recommend them. However, if you must, I recommend Creative's Nomad Jukebox. It holds 6 GB (yes, gigabytes) of songs. Wow!
Accessories:This player comes with great sounding headphones! Also love the backlight remote, so you can have the player in your bag, but still have control!
