| bhensel's Full Review: Sharp MD-MS722 Personal MiniDisc Player |
I bought the Sharp 722 player to use for both listening to MDs on the go and to record MD to MD with my home player. The 722 worked fine for the first year. Then after a year of use, the player didn't output any sound but the standard beeping noise that sounds when a button is pushed. I found an online site describing a procedure to disassemble the player and reconnect some wires that had come loose. I would have never opened it if the warranty was still valid. The problem was solved but about a week later, I could no longer use the player to record, only play. After another disassembly, it again worked. Now I have a major problem. The buttons on the player do not work anymore. There is a switch on the bottom of the player that allows you to deactivate the player's buttons so they are not accidently pushed but this is not the cause of the problem. I suspect more loose wires but cannot seem to solve the problem myself. Sharp's responses to my problems seem to be to have it repaired but this would cost too much and would take much too long since it needs to be sent to another state. I can still use the attached headphone remote to play MDs, but the remote does not have a record button, so I currently cannot record.
So, if you are looking for a durable, portable MD player, this is definitely NOT the player for you. If you are looking for something that will be left at home to connect to your home stereo or just to record, this might be for you since prices seem to be coming down on this model since it is no longer new.
