The Sony MZ-E33 is an excellent MiniDisc Player. It's small size, skip-protection and everything else common to the MiniDisc format is found here and more.
First off, the stylish design is great. The back of the unit features buttons to control the unit if not used with the remote (more on that later). The unit is very small, small enough to fit in a breast pocket, but the battery compartment looks somewhat clumsy.
The critically-acclaimed Sony "stick" remote is found on this device. I don't really like it that much because:
1. On this model, it's not backlit.
2. The way it's designed, it's a pain to slip the player into your pocket and then clip the remote onto your pocket, as the cable has to the player runs out of your pocket and then BACK IN AGAIN, as you will see if you have ever seen or have any experience with the unit. This is characteristic of most Sony models, though.
3. The screen for displaying the song titles scrolls slow and is quite small.
But, the stick remote is better than a "wristwatch" style remote I believe, and it has a jog button which is a convenient feature.
The sound is INCREDIBLE. Maybe it's just me, but it sounds better than my Sony CD player. With the Digital Mega Bass cranked up, it makes my headphones sound like high-end speakers. I like!
There is no LCD screen on the unit itself, a plus for me. I want a simplistic design, and if I want a display, i'll connect the remote.
The skip-protection is good, with 10 seconds. This may seem to pale in comparison with the more expensive 40 second skip-protection models, but I have noticed that my CD and MD player, which both have 10 second skip-protection, when they are shook together, the MD player lasts longer without skipping.
With or without batteries, this unit is LIGHT! Unfortunatley, rechargeable batteries are optional and take up the battery compartment; plus there is no extended-play battery case! But at $199 or $299 or less with the Sony Bundle5 (deck and player) this unit is a steal.
