The Sony MZ-E55 is an excellent MD player. This is my third MD walkman (I've also owned a Sharp 702 and Sony MZ-Ep11.) To be honest, I would not have purchased the MZ-E55 due to the price; however I was able to trade up the EP-11 I'd owned for a year.
Now that I've owned the E55 for a few months, I'd never go back. The size of this player is simply amazing. For my purposes - extensive, hard walks, this is a big plus, as is the battery life of the included NiMH battery pack, which charges very quickly and lasts about 6 hours. The back-lit remote is also a big plus over the remote included with the EP11.
The sound is, of course, excellent.
On the downside, the disc loading mechanism (clamshell) seems potentially shoddy and is nowhere near as easy to use as a slot-in mechanism.
One thing I would note: the E55 does include 40s of shock memory versus the 10s in the EP11. I do not notice the difference.
