The Sony MZ-EP11 player is great for entry level MD beginners that already have a means of recording minidiscs or will just listen to pre-recorded discs. The durability, sound and headphones are all excellent aspects.
First, the durability. It is made out of a very sturdy-feeling aluminum, and has survived many drops and falls, and it doesn't scratch or mar as easily as other metal casings Sony and other manufacturers has made. The in-line remote control stick is silver and standard on Sony MD players, along with the good quality fold-up headphones. Unfortunately, the device itself is on the large side for an MD player, but overall it's size is small compared to a CD or tape player.
The sound, like many other MD players, is superb, on par or maybe even exceeding CDs at times. The included headphones don't look impressing, but they produce some amazing sound, and their in-ear style is good for when you're walking around.
The price is EXCELLENT, if you can find it. The price is $89 at some of the Sony factory stores, sometimes even lower. I won't get into the advantages of the minidisc format like improved skip memory, cartridge durability and size of the players, you can check out http://www.mindisc.org for that. If you know what you want from an MD player, this just may be one for you.
