| owenreed's Full Review: Sony Walkman MZ-R30 Personal MiniDisc Player |
I got the MZ-R35 as a Christmas present. It's slightly dated now but I use it almost every day. My mini disc came in a nice blue colour that looks cool.
Recording CD's is a "doddle" using the optical connection. Just plug it in, press the syncro start button and flick the record switch. Being digital, it will mark the tracks individually. All you have to do now is title them using the quite functional jog dial.
I use the minidisc for recording band rehersals at college. I plug a microphone into line in, and set the levels manually on the mini disc. There is a switch on the back for microphone sensitivity.
The oversampling works well at preventing skipping or jumping of playback. It only skips when I'm out jogging or walking very quickly.
If you are a reporter, a musician or a person who just likes a good quality 20 bit recording, then mini disc is the way forward. They will last a lot longer than recordable CD's. Choose any of the new Sony equipment. I think they are releasing 24bit versions soon - CD Quality.
I'm not too impressed by the weight of my portable. I've seen lighter ones on the market but they are wey dearer. I will have to update my portable to one of the new, smaller and lighter ones. I'll stick with Sony though.
