I've always wanted something more portable than a CD player. Ever tried changing CDs while on a bus? Always turned out to be some sort of circus act! So, I looked at mp3 players and MD players. For a while, both of them were way too expensive for a college student, so I dropped the idea of buying one. However, prices steadily fell and unfortunately the first that I could afford was an mp3 player (the I-Jam IJ101), which did not really satisfy me. It had a fixed amount of memory and getting more was simply out of the question.
One fine day, I saw this MD player on Mercata for $130 with 20% off for new customers, and instantly I ordered one with the intention of selling my mp3 player away!
I made the right choice, finally. The version I got included a smart remote control, AC adapter and rechargeable batteries, which practically meant no more buying of batteries! Right off, I went to buy some blank MDs to record some of my favorite songs. Granted, the player is not as intuitive and easy to use, but I soon got used to it after reading through the manual (I am not a manual person, so this disgrunted me some). However, the recorder performed excellently. I could not really distinguish between the quality of the MD and the CD, given that I did the recording through the analog cable!
The remote control is intuitive enough and I seldom ever use the controls on the main panel, unless I need to record. Playback is always smooth and skip free. The supplied earphones are of good quality too, but I still preferred my old earphones, so I used them instead.
For the first time user (me included), there will be some frustrations like when you realize that you have recorded over something you just recorded, but all these are correctable and once you get to learn the proper procedure, everything will work just fine! Coupled with the price, I'd say that this is a perfect model for everyone. Yes, it is slightly bigger than most of the other recordable/player models, but it is also very much cheaper.
