| Mancanic's Full Review: Sony Walkman MZ-R37SP Personal MiniDisc Player |
The Sony MZ-R37 is the perfect portable audio device for the average listener. For those of us that enjoy good sound, and ease of use, and are not willing to fork over big bucks for a MP3 player, this Mini-Disc player is perfect.
I purchased my MD player because it is a Sony. The Sony portable audio equipment I have owned in the past has taken quite a liking and kept on ticking. Bottom line is that Sony products are usually more rugged and hold up to more abuse. The ME-R37 is no exception. This MD player is built like a tank. It has a solid feeling and is constructed with a completely metal shell. This would mean that god-forbid you leave in on your seat or on the dash, it won't melt and warp.
For those of us that are not exactly technological geniuses, this MD player is very easy to use. To record you simply plug in to the input and hit the record button. How simple can it get? Because its so easy you can't screw it up, which is nice. The editing is just as easy with a clearly laid out control panel on the bottom of the unit. With these functions you can insert and delete songs.
The sound quality is also great. To the untrained ear, the quality sounds just as good as a CD player. The headphones that come with the unit are average, I suggest upgrading to a higher quality pair to fully enjoy this unit. Also, in the picture provided here at e-pinions, there is a remote control provided. Be aware: it does not come with the unit it is an add on. However, you can patch it into your stereo, which sounds great.
This unit uses little batteries when playing the music. I would however, suggest a power supply when ripping the music. The ME-R37 uses a lot more power to burn the MD's than to play them.
What I especially like about this MD player is that I can record from any source I like. You can record MP3's from your computer, and you can record from other CD's. But what is especially impressive is that with a small mixer and a mike you can record CD quality live music. This is great if you are a musician, or just want to record a bar band.
Overall the ME-R37 is a great deal. It is cheaper than an MP3 player and can hold infinitely more music, (with as many MD's as you can record). You can record music anywhere and from any source. All for a low price. This MD player is the best buy you're going to find.
