| Lowrider85's Full Review: Sony Walkman MZ-R55 Personal MiniDisc Player |
When i went to Magnolia Hi Fi looking for an minidisc player i had no idea how much minidisc players cost. It amazed me to see that they cost 300 dollars and so on, i bought this mz-r55 because my friend had recommended it to me so i got it. All i have to say about it is that its amazing. I love that you can record mp3s or sound waves off your computer if you have a "USB" port ( a port in the back of the computer about a centimeter in length and 2 millmiters in height.) The Mz-r55 has 40 seconds anti-shock and so far it has never gotten close to skipping. It comes with a tuner that is really cool and comes with some cheap but clear headphones that work pretty well but are uncomforable. It has Syncro recording which so far i have not used but have heard it works very well. The minidisc player is about half an inch thick and 2 inches long. It has avls switch that can help you determine where its not hurting your ears but i dont use it. You can record from a computer , Cd or radio on this and can record manually or syncro but id recommend recording manually. When i bought my md it didn't come with any discs but the discs are really cool because you can get different colors , are relatively cheap ($2.50 each one) you can record over them anytime, you can label your songs which is very slow but looks real cool. The md comes with a Mega Bass switch that is a real plus because the headphones dont deliver much bass so it works out pretty well. You can even record from a mic on this! The Md player comes with a rechargable batter thats pretty small and handy. It lasts up to 4 hours and takes about 3 hours to charge. You can also use 2aa batteries but have to put them in this plastic cartridge that you lock onto the back of the Md player. The reason i really like this player is because you can delete a disc whenever you want and put new music on it. Its a lot better than buying a Cd-r which you can only use once and has worse sound or you could pay big bucks for 1 rewriteable cd. I think its smarter to go with the minidisc player. The Minidisc player can hook up to your stereo using a kit that costs about 10 dollars and is very simple to setup. All you do is put it into the Aux switch in the back of your stereo. You can get it in 3 different colors; blue, yellow and silver. I have the silver one and it looks real good on me. In all i believe that its better to go with a minidisc player than a really expensive cd player the only negative point i have about it is that you cannot get radio on it. I recommend anyone who has 300 dollars to pick this up.
