| jedo1507r's Full Review: Sony Walkman MZ-R90 Personal MiniDisc Player |
I purchased the blue MZ-R90 used back in 2003. This is my second MD recorder, replacing an older deck.
When I bought it, obviously it did not record correctly; however, the kinks smoothed out the more I have used it. Overall, this portable has been quite reliable and easy to use.
The full metal case survived many accidential drops onto asphalt, concrete, and tile floors; which did not cripple the portable at all. The audio quality was quite powerful and a bit crisp, due to the digital nature.
Two major design flaws, the "Track Mark" button located on the upper right side of the machine is easily triggered and if the disc is unprotected, a new track is created within the current one. Another is quite common, a loose battery door. That door is solved by slightly bending the metal connector to secure the plastic cover.
Because of age, my R90 has drained many batteries because of a transport click. A quick burst of air temporarily solved the problem. Dust crippled this machine.
The R90 is one of the better older models to choose; however, pricing varies. The machine is built well and performs without major issue.
