As shown in the pictures, the design of the machine itself is very stylish. Apart from the great looks, I found this unit very easy to use. The buttons are very easy to push and just the right size. One of the best features built in is the jog dial, it is particularly useful for titling and selecting functions hidden inside the software menu. The software menu, for features such as clock set and editing functions is very easy and straight forward to use.
One of the little things that bugged me was the way the remote control is designed. The remote control just doesn't feel right. The designing was never made for the people that use right hands to access the remote control and at the same time clip the control to the left side of their shirt. When I try to do this the display is actually upside down. Only works right when I keep the control on my right side and use my left hand. Somewhat inconvenient but is not a major problem.
The has has a very long battery life, ~12h in playing time, which is more than what most people need (in my opinion). If necessary it is possible to use the AA battery add on which adds a few more hours of playing time. One of the side effects of this is the noise the unit makes when playing a disc (due to the power saving features). While loud, it's not loud enough to hear when listening to the music.
Now to the problem with the LCD on the main unit. I can't explain why it happened but I had left the unit off for around a while and then when I turned it on the LCD screen on the main unit started to skip around. The LCD screen also started displaying random characters. Finding this to be weird, I started to use mild force to push on the screen to see if anything had come lose. No luck. So I tried to shake it lightly. No good. Anyway, so then I just used the unit the way it is (around a month or two). Then one day, out of the blue, the LCD screen started to work again. No reason, just started to work, and has been working ever since. I believe the LCD problem might have come from something that has come loose due to shaking(?) or maybe too much pressure to the unit(?). It's hard to say. But I suggest if you do get this MD unit or any MD unit for that matter, use a soft case to protect it. A small camera case will do just fine.
