| ccn158's Full Review: Sony Walkman MZ-R91 Personal MiniDisc Player |
At the moment, this is the worlds smallest, recording Discman. And what a beauty it is. I've always like Discmans for their superior sound quality to cassettes, and not really got on with CD players as they annoyingly jog, and can be a bit bulky.
The Minidisc, undoubtedly is the format for the future. It's portable, can store 74 minutes of quality audio, and unlike CD is completely re-writable. And you can do it all on the MZR91.
This latest Sony model can take the pace - it's got up to 29 hours playback time on it in a single charge - and a barely a quarter of an inch thick, it's sure to raise some eyebrows.
Not that the features are anything to be snuffed at. Here's what makes this model so great:
40 second SRM (Shock Resistant Memory) -This ensures that your MD won't skip in the unlikely event of this happening. I don't think I have ever heard my MD skip, even when I am running!
Jog Lever: You'll be glad for this, as it makes editing a lot easier, allowing you to pinpoint the moment in a song with ease. No more forwarding and rewinding around that crucial second!
LCD Stick Controller: It may look slightly weird for a remote control, but the Stick really is discreet and practical. With the remote, you can edit track names, move them around, as well as the usual play, stop, etc.
Digital AGC: This ensures high-quality recording, no matter what the source, be it Radio, CD or Cassette. A built in sampling rate converter is also another nice touch, allowing you to see what quality your music's at.
Monaural mode: Another handy function. If you like a bit more music per Minidisc, put this on, and you can get up to 160 mins on a disc, if you're prepared to lose a bit of sound quality.
Overall: This is a superb, top-of the range product, which represents great value for money. It's a good buy, especially as you know you'll be buying something that will last you well into the future.
