| nwhsplatinum's Full Review: Rio PMP-500 (64 MB) MP3 Player |
I just had to get an mp3 player, so i was looking around and i found a hp 9150i cdrw drive bundled with a rio 500 for $150. I instantly bought it.
The rio is the best thing i own, besides my cdrw drive. I have a minidisc player too, and i prefer the rio over it. Minidisc take too long to record (1 minute per minute of sound), with my rio it takes maybe 10 seconds a song. With mindisc, the laser goes dead after a year, and it cost $50 to replace, the batter goes dead after 2 years which cost $70 to replace, and you have to clean it with a md cleaner wich cost $20. All that compared to a mp3 player which i got free.
A lot of people are worried about how many songs they can fit. I now encode all my songs in the my music directory at 160Kbps, and then i convert those to 64kbps into my rio folder. So i use the 64kbps bitrate for my mp3 player, which sounds very good, since the player plays it awesome, even though it is a low bitrate. The headphones are very cheap. They are a wrap around the ear model. I like them, since they are light and small and they sound great compared to other headphones that came with my mindisc player.
When you first get the player, update it. The batter life, and features are better. Out of the box, it does not support mp3 tags, until you update it. Also, there has been some transfering problems, since i updated the firmware. I would watch out about that. In the end of a song, the player will turn off, and the transfer would fail. When you do that 20 times, it sux.
I love this player since it doesn't have 10+ buttons, and how portable, and light-weight it is. It is very sturdy. The case is very stupidly designed, the buttons aren't exactly where the holes are. But Overall this is definitely worth the money. Go to riohome.com for more information. The rio is about 2" by 5". In other words a little bit smaller than a deck of cards.
update#2
A lot of folkz asked me what software i use, since rio's software really stinks. I used Real Jukebox Plus with the rio 500 plug-in. It allows you to instantly delete all the files, transfer any file on your computer too it, etc. It's a really good program to use with it, so if you want the program, email me on how to get it, nwhsplatinum@aol.com.
