Pros: Buttons easy to find and use. Sound quality. Compact size.
Cons: Do not purchase TEAL or PURPLE models! Case not well designed. Battery life.
The Bottom Line: I highly recommend the Rio 500. Just please remember to get the gray model.

| sfelix's Full Review: Rio PMP-500 (64 MB) MP3 Player |
While I love this player, I want to start out with an important con because you should know this before purchasing:
I originally purchased the Teal model. I had problems getting my system (PC) to recognize it. I also had problems with one of the buttons. I contacted the manufacturer and they may be recalling teal and purple models of the player (not the gray). If you decide to buy the rio 500, please get the gray.
The player is great and has extremely fast file transfers. What I like about the Rio 500 is that it has 64mb of internal memory and can be upgraded. It has one slot for a smartmedia card. Other players have 64mb of memory, but not internal and with much room for expansion.
The Rio 500 does not have bells and whistles if that is what you are looking for. It simply does mp3 and does it well. I highly recommend this product.
Now is a great time to purchase one while there is a $50 rebate until 3/31/01.
