| bashman's Full Review: Rio PMP-500 (64 MB) MP3 Player |
I bought the Diamond Rio PMP 500, a digital audio player, because I needed clear, pure, and solid audio. My CD player would skip when i went to run or work out. The Rio was the perfect gadget to solve my problems.
I ordered it off the internet, and soon it came right to my door. I went to hook it up. The problem that I encountered was that I had Windows 95 and the player works only with Windows 98. I finally broke down and bought Windows 98, and tried again to transfer files to my Rio.
Now, I had some software troubles, but with a little playing around in the options, I got everything worked out and soon was playing beautiful surround sound through a tiny player, the size of a portable radio (about 4"x2"x1/2").
I love how I can carry digital audio (64 megabytes) in my pocket. The part I don't particular enjoy in the player is the sudden shortage of memory. MP3 files can become large, especially ones you scan off a CD, that you can sometimes have as little as six files at once, leading into the dilemma of choosing which files to put on at a time. But, I have also had as many as 21 on at a time. If this truly becomes too much, "Flashcards", extra memory, can be inserted into the Rio for up to another 64 Megs of memory.
The price, over $200, isn't exactly a forte. However, the highpoints amazingly overthrow the low, making the Rio a great product. This player is for anybody who has the need for a small portable player that wont EVER skip. Perfect for exercising.
