| Alifornia's Full Review: Rio PMP-500 (64 MB) MP3 Player |
This product is great for people who want mp3's on the go. I own two portable mp3 players, the Sony Walkman and the Rio 500, and the rio 500 is by far the better choice. The learning curve is simple, it's lightweight, has never skipped on me, and is a great distraction during boring class lectures. It comes with headphones and earphones (which could have been shaped better) and have all the features that I use on winamp like equalizer, shuffle, programmable playlist, etc... The one feature of the sony's that I wish they would consider is a rechargeable battery pack because the battery drains over a period of time even if you are not using it. Consider investing in rechargeable batteries. Good news is it only needs one AA battery to run. It also comes with a little case with a belt clip attached to it so you can workout with it. If you listen to music alot on the stereo and headphones you notice that the headphone experience is much different from your home stereo system. I stored 40 mp3's at 48kbps quality and they sounded fine if you turn up the volume a little. I used this unit to do some presentations for my speech class providing background music and various audio clips through a pair of mini speakers. The price could be better ($269) but amazon.com has it for $230-$240 last time I checked and it is cheaper than a lot of units in its class (64 mb) and durable since I've dropped it a few times down the stairway. Overall I recommend this unit if you are determined on getting a portable mp3 player.
