| Musical_Guru's Full Review: Rio PMP-500 (64 MB) MP3 Player |
Here is the story: I received one of these 500's for my birthday. It sounded beautiful, it was small, light, and incredibly portable, and even the headphones were much more comfortable than what I'm used to. I had a great time with it, mostly just testing out different genres and songs on it. The second day I had it, it broke. It was, the retailer said, a faulty unit. He sent me another one, which also worked great, until three weeks later, when IT broke. This time the LCD burned itself out. Instead of going back to the retailer, I went directly to the Diamond company. They were very polite, and sent me a third player, that I believe I used five times before--get this--it broke! A faulty unit, just like the first player.
The tale I'm told is that demand has been very, very high for these players, and the Diamond company has since Christmas had an extremely hard time meeting demand with supply. Apparently in order to compensate, they have sacrificed quality. While the player works, it is a very nice piece of equipment. I greatly enjoy using it. However, unless the occasion arises that Diamond can manufacture at least a MODERATELY durable player, I recommend that you keep your distance.
