| RedLineX's Full Review: RCA Lyra RD2204 (64 MB) MP3 Player |
RCA was one of the first large corporations producing MP3 players. When it first came out people were reluctant to buy it because people were used to buying players made by computer manufactures. The Lyra ended up shinning anyway. First of all the player boasts great sound quality, it’s almost crystal clear. The design is sleek and cool looking, but looks don’t really count that much. The coolest feature of this player is that it has an actual display. The Lyra can display the artist, song and track number by looking at the ID3 tags that are attached to every MP3. This is really cool because if you’re looking for a specific song you can find it. The Lyra also has a backlight, which is something that really isn’t seen in an MP3 player. It’s pretty useful if you’re looking for a song. The interface of the player is really amazing it’s more like using your MP3 player on your computer.
But it’s too much like using your computer. The player actually has delays when loading songs and there’s a little message on the bottom of the screen saying “loading software”. You shouldn’t have to “load software” on an MP3 player unless it has lots of different functions. This becomes a nuisance. The huge display, backlight and software loading (which uses the processor a lot) saps batteries. It claims a 12-hour lifeline with 2 AAs, but it dies in about 8 hours of non-stop use. This is got to be the greatest problem because if you’re on a flight or a trip you’ll have to carry a 4 pack of AAs to get through it. The headphones are also pretty poor for the player. Your going to want to buy some new ones right on the purchase of it.
The Lyra comes in 32 MB (30mins) and 64 MB (60mins) flavors both have USB support and can play both MP3s and AND Real Player files. Overall the Lyra is right up there as one of the top players
