| m_muscari's Full Review: RCA Lyra RD2204 (64 MB) MP3 Player |
Several months ago, i purchased an RCA Lyra digital music player. I am an avid user of Napster and other mp3 services, so i figured that an mp3 player would be invaluable to me. Since then, i have carried my Lyra everywhere. The Lyra comes with everything you need to get started with a portable mp3 player for $200. The CompactFlash Card reader is included for transferring music files from your computer to your player, along with headphones, two 'AA' batteries, and a 32mb Flashcard with 4 songs included. Although the 32mb flashcard only holds 30-40 minutes of cd-quality music, cards can be pruchased which hold up to 96mb. The only disadvantage to such cards is the price. A 32mb card costs about $70. Anyone with 10 minutes on their hands at night can choose which songs they want, usually about 11 or 12 on the provided card, and tote them around the next day. The player's software is simple to use, and includes a 5-bar equalizer with presets for pop, rock, jazz, and bass boost. The player includes CDA support, so the name of the song is displayed while it is playing. The playlist can be programmed to play tracks in a certain order, shuffle the tracks, or play them in the order that they appear. The backlight on the player is bright, and provides a good light source when it is to dark to see the screen. The Lyra is encased in a silver plastic case, and is aesthetically pleasing. The compact size and light weight allows for easy carrying. Being a clumsy person, I know from experience that the player is extremely durable. I've sat on it, stepped on it, and dropped it on the ground getting out of the car in parking lots, and despite a few scrathes to the paint, the player is none the worse for wear. I recommend the RCA Lyra digital player to anyone who is tired of carrying CD players that skip constantly, and are fed up with teh outrageous price of a CD.
