Pros: Customer service people seem to be well trained. Showed up on time for installation.
Cons: Service is intermittent. Outages persist for days. Customer service hold times mostly over 30 minutes.
The Bottom Line: If you have a choice, pick another cable operator. If you don't, take up tennis.

It's starting to feel like the Cable TV industry is one of America's largest legal scams. We live in one of the most technically advanced countries in the world, yet somehow we're allowed only ONE cable company to choose from? If this cable company provides lousy service then... tough, take it or leave it.
After my experience with Adelphia, I'm considering going back to plain old over-the-air television. I mean, television is kind of a waste of a person's time anyway right?
I called Adelphia after moving in to my apartment several weeks ago to hook up cable TV and cable modem. I noticed right away that the hold time to speak with a customer service person was abnormally long - probably about 30 minutes. That should have been my first clue.
When I finally got a hold of someone, she told me that the first appointment available was almost two weeks into the future. Okay, I can live without TV for two weeks.
Two weeks later, the cable guys showed up within the scheduled two hour window period. They didn't know where the main box was in my building so they had to ask the cable-modem installers who luckily happened to be in my apartment at the same time. Finally, they got the cable hooked up and presented me with a bill for $30, despite a "free installation" offer. "Don't I get a cable box in case I want to order pay-per-view?", I asked. The guy seemed confused and replied "That would be $4 extra per month". They lost my pay-per-view business right off the bat...
Now I thought after I moved to California, I'd never see snow again. The weather is beautiful here almost everyday, but when you turn on Adelphia cable there is always a 50% chance of snow. Not only does my TV go out, but my cable modem goes out as well. This is a problem that has persisted for three days now.
Two days ago I was trying to watch "The Weakest Link", only to have the cable go on and off about five times within the hour. Because of this, it seemed like contestants were disappearing off the show without any rhyme or reason. I even missed the lovely Anne Robinson giving her infamous "good-bye".
When you call customer service, the story is different depending on which person you speak with. Sometimes they admit to "problems in your area". Sometimes they have no clue. One thing they are consistent about is inconsistent service.
I've had Adelphia for about two weeks now. I'll keep the folks at Epinions posted on my situation. If I continue to have problems, I think I'll keep my 30 bucks a month and give Adelphia a frosty, Anne Robinson style "good-bye!".
