Pros: Digital cable. Offers more channels than Time Warner did.
Cons: Picture will freeze occasionally.
The Bottom Line: Out of 300+ channels, you should be able to find something to watch.

| tiffer0220's Full Review: Adelphia |
This review was written in August, but was placed under Adelphia powerlink. After realizing it was misplaced, I am moving it to its right place, along with a few updates.
When I moved to Florida in August, one of the things I really missed at first was Time Warner Cable. I was comparing Time Warner to Adelphia, and couldn't decide which one I had liked better. How do the 2 compare? Well for one, I am in an area where digital cable is available. The picture and quality is much better than it was back north. I was supplied with a digital cable box that is bigger than my VCR and looks like an eye sore sitting on top of my television. Despite the eye sore digital receiver, I did have digital cable 9 months before it was even offered by Time Warner in my old neighborhood in New Jersey. (My parents are still there, that is how I know.)
When I first wrote this review in August of last year, I was very unhappy that Adelphia did not offer the WB network or The Cartoon Network. Since then, Adelphia has upgraded its service and I now receive both channels, along with a Cartoon Network 2 channel, and other sister channels to some of the most popular channels. For example, I now receive 6 different VH-1's, 3 Mtv's, 6 Discovery channels, and quite a few others.
On a good note, I do get many other channels here than I did back North for pretty much the same price. But as you Time Warner subscribers are aware of, when you subscribe to cable, you can run as many other cable lines as you want to other televisions without being charged. Here I would have to order another cable line for each television I want cable on and I would be charged for each additional television. So again, you get one good thing, and then one bad thing follows. For $40.00+ a month, I would think Adelphia could afford to let me run my own cable wire to my bedroom television. I am not picky, I do not need the digital box for my room, just good reception is all I ask for.
Basic service is roughly $40.00 a month. We happened to subscribe to Adelphia while they were offering a special. For $99.95 a month we get digital cable, all of the premium channels, powerlink and long distance. Before I signed up for this deal, I was paying $95.00 a month for cable and powerlink, and I did not have nearly as many channels as I do now. So for a few dollars more, I get about 60 premium channels. (Premium channels include all of the HBO, Cinemax, Showtime, Starz, & Encore channels, and then some.) Along with all this, Adelphia also offers Music choice. Music choice is channels strictly devoted to playing music with no commercials, advertisements or even pictures showing up on the screen. There are currently 40 Music choice channels available. Ranging from everything from Kids Only to Tropical music, to 80's hits, to Metal.
For additional money, they offer different channels devoted to sports fans. You can subscribe to Major League Baseball channels, Basketball channels, Hockey channels, and even college basketball channels. I am surprised I haven't seen some Football channels thrown in there.
The picture quality is pretty good, and only a few times will we get a "picture freeze" that is commonly associated with digital television. One thing I do not care about the digital is that when the cable goes out, your basic service will come back on first, and it can take hours before you will receive your digital cable back. That means, you will not get to watch the premium channels until the digital service is restored.
I do have mixed feelings about Adelphia's customer service. On some occasions, they can be very pleasant and helpful, and on other occasions, they can be downright nasty. Most times though, when I have had a problem and expect a credit on my account, I usually do get it.
Since Adelphia is one of the better cable companies in the area offering digital cable, I would recommend them to others. Not because I am thrilled with them, but only because the other company in the area does not offer as much. We did try one of the satellite dish companies a few months ago, but it only lasted a week. I wanted Adelphia back since the satellite company didn't even compare to Adelphia.
