Cable TV seems to be one of those necessary evils in life. I will date myself with this, but I remember when it first became available and how GREAT it was. Yea, cable TV!!! Well, I still happen to think that it's great. I've had Time Warner for several years, and they were fine. I liked being able to view my channel guide online, and the music channels were a nice addition. I didn't like paying $45+ per month, but oh well. Necessary evil thing, you know. Well, I bought a house and moved, and the cable offered is Adelphia (formerly known as Coaxial). I had heard horrors about Coaxial, so I looked into satellite service. The only problem is that I still can't get local channels and by the time I got all the things I wanted, the monthly fee was as much as cable. Add to that the purchase of the equipment ($300) and the installation....well, forget it. I'll wait a another six months or so until the cost comes down. So, I gave in and called Adelphia and signed up for their digital cable service. I have one word....WOW. Digital TV is awesome. It makes the regular signal look terrible, so I am hoping that more channels switch and switch SOON. Many are the premium channels I don't get (doesn't it seem like the channels you don't have are the ones with all the good movies.....until you switch to them!) Adelphia doesn't offer many music channels either. The guy who installed the equipment said that I would miss Time Warner, but I haven't skipped a beat. Again, I must say that digital TV is great. As for Time Warner......well, they have this STUPID policy where they automatically charge you for the equipment just so you "know how much it WOULD have cost if you didn't turn it in". I received my last bill from them, and they sent it to my new address TWO WEEKS before I moved there AND they charged me $170 for equipment I was still using. This must be standard BS with cable companies. Also, an FYI from a former Property Manager......NEVER EVER leave your cable equipment in the apartment or with any personnel there. Turn it in yourself, or you are just ASKING for problems. Overall, I am pretty happy with my Adelphia digital TV and look forward to new digital channels being added.
