| ParisLemon's Full Review: Cablevision |
I haven't suscribed to Cablevision for about a year now, and I hear they were recently bought out by one of the bigger cable companies, well hallelujah! Cablevision was the cause of so many headaches for me for so many years. Once they upped the bill again to over forty dollars a month, that was the last straw, I went out and bought a DirectTV system, which I love (and I believe now about the same monthly bill for countless more channels and absurdly better picture and sound quality).
In northeast Ohio, Cablevision was the only cable provider around. We were forced to pay the high monthly fees for what was then like thirty-five channels of so-so quality. When the better cable providers started offering many more channels (due to DirectTV and other satellite TV companies coming out), Cablevision tried to pack in about twenty more channels, but the quality was so bad on some of them that they were unwatchable.
Every year I believe my cable bill went up with Cablevision. Finally when they tried to get me to pay ten dollars more a month for horrible quality new channels, I knew it was time for a switch. While other cable companies were starting to offer such great things as cable-modem internet access, Cablevision had just expanded to fifty channels! Wowee! They were so far behind, and charging more then their better competitors. Until DirectTV and the other satellite companies came around though, we didn't have any choice but to pay the bills for Cablevisions "service".
I remember that just about every time there was a thunderstorm outside, even if it wasn't raining, the cable would always be the first thing to go out. This seriously happened without fail. When we would get sick of waiting for it to come back, and would call the customer service of Cablevision they would basically just tell us we had to keep waiting. When the cable did eventually come back on, sometimes, no joke, days later, we would never have access to our "premium" one HBO channel (that they required we have a cable box for). So again, we'd have to call up Cablevision and ask them to turn back on our HBO, and we had to do that every single time the cable went out. It was very annoying.
Hopefully the rumor is true that some other company did buy out Cablevision because I cannot think of a worse experience I've had with a service in my life. Maybe the new company will get on the ball and install cable-modem access in my home area, that would be great.
I am so happy that DirectTV came about when it did, then you still had to pay like five hundred dollars for the system, but I still consider it a great investment compared to what I dealt with in my Cablevision years. Now I get great channels (so many) with infinitely better picture and sound quality, that hardly ever goes out, and if it does, it's usually back on it a matter of minutes. RIP Cablevision.
