Like many others, I am a victim of Cablevision - in my case, Star Cable. I have found that, to get a decent picture on my TV, I have to subscribe to cable T.V. When I started subscribing about twelve years ago, it cost me around $11 a month for basic cable. Now, for the same service, I pay $38.
For the basic cable, we get about thirty six channels. Sounds great until you consider how many you actually watch. We probably watch about six. We constantly have blurry pictures and interference. To arrange a visit from the repair person is such a nightmare that I only do that when the picture actually disappears. We are charged extra for having cable on the TV in my son's room and for the remote controls that have long disappeared.
I put up with this for so long because I felt that I didn't have much of a choice. If I want to have a semi-decent picture on my T.V., I have to subscribe to cable. If I want to subscribe to cable, I have to use Star Cable. What's wrong with this picture? (No pun intended!) I am not much of a TV watcher, but my husband likes to watch college football, and my son has several favorite shows.
To be fair, there are some good things to say about cable. Umm, let me think. Oh, yes! I can watch Mary Tyler Moore reruns on Nick at Night every night. (Except that I don't have time to watch TV on school nights!)
But I'm not planning on using cable much longer. I am now shopping around for a satellite system and plan to read Epinions on those. Now I finally feel like I have a choice and it's thumbs down to cablevision.
