No service No charge (Reply to this comment)
by doesitcount
It's called a monopoly. When Bill Gates did it, it was against the law! When your service is out and not working it is up to YOU to call and notify the company, as with Internet service. If you are out of service ask, politely, for credit for the time your service was not working. I have always received my credit. Maybe the companies do not want you to know this but don't blame them if you don't stand up for yourself. If you ordered a hamburger and fries but only got the fries, would you demand your hamburger or get your money back? Whats the difference? Speak up, don't just set back and whine.

Food Network and Emerill - BANG! (Reply to this comment)
by bonniesayers
Have you ever watched Emerill Live on Food Network? I also like Bill Boggs show with dinner and a celeb. My Mother first told me about the show Two Fat Ladies but they are british I think and hard to follow.
Most of my stations are en espanol!

Has just taken over ALL of our local Cable companies in my area. I guess they are wanting it all. They are going around the county and buying up everything. My bill is also around $40.00 a month. Thanks for sharing. ~Donna~

You guys are having to pay too much. I thought I was paying a lot at $25.00 for expanded basic. I use knology and they offer about 65 channels in the expanded basic.
Send the company a link to your review poney. :-)

oh poneyby...I know what you're going through.. (Reply to this comment)

AT&T bought out Viacom Cable where I live...It costs $31.62 for "expanded basic"...regular basic is about $20...which it was like well $11 more and I get a lot more channels (but nothing too special like any movie channels...). I remember when they started cable, it was so we could get more stations...but you could still watch TV without it...now twenty or so years later, I haven't lived in a place yet where I could get at least one station in clearly without cable...what happened?!!? And it seems all areas do have just one cable station...what a monopoly...I agree!

Good writeup --plus my idea (Reply to this comment)
by Trevsmom
and I totally agree. The cable companies charge WAY too much. That is the main reason why I don't have cable (would rather pay for Interet service!). I think that what the cable companies should do is instead of charging a flat rate they should charge by channel and let the CUSTOMER choose what channels they want. That way they aren't paying for channels they don't watch. Makes sense to me!

You'll Get No Argument From Me (Reply to this comment)
by LEDOMAINE
I reviewed my local cable company soon after I started writing here. Just like you, I question the ethics of citizens being limited to the cable service provider of our city's or township's choice. Maybe they (our cities) should be providing us cable free of charge since we have no choice in which one we purchase. Very viable points, Rocky.

It is possible to have a dish, even if you live in an apartment! We recently purchased a Direct TV system. The poor guy did a great job running wire from my living room, through my dining room, to my kitchen, and out my window! The dish is actually on my fire escape! Here in NY, everyone I know is going satellite. On any given day, look out my window at the good 10-15 dishes sticking out of windows, on fire escapes, and rooftops. The only problem with this is the massive amount of wire ran through the apartment. If a piece of wire is spliced or pinched, it all has to be checked! Hope this helps, and have a great day.....

Poney --
It is indeed possible to have a dish in an apartment. Where we live, lots of people have them -- they just run the wiring out from the apartment (not sure how) onto the deck/balcony. We, too, live in an area where one cable company has the monopoly, so a lot of people here have opted for satellite.
Great review (I can totally sympathize)!
Take care,
Natasha

cable company is still better then mine. for 38.00 a month we received 30 channels. there basic programming was 10 channels. I gave up on cable long ago. This cable was the only one in our area too. Now I have Directv. At least with them I have plenty of channels to choose from.
