| cracker24's Full Review: Cox |
When dealing with internet service providers, I would strongly advise you run not walk away from Cox. We purchased Cox a couple years back after Katrina and have had nothing but problems ever since.
Customer service is truly reprehensible. I have had countless issues with service disconnecting or not being available. Dating a computer tech, came in handy as I learned how to do quite a bit of troubleshooting on my own so I wouldn't have to resort to calling them.
The latest incident had me on the phone with them for 3 hours only to find out that once again they had to come to the house to "fix" the problem. In the last 6 months, I have bought 2 modems, as well as 2 routers since according to COX the problems were all on my end.
As do many other people in the US, we have one computer in the living room and other wireless computer in another room. Multiple connections to the internet using the same connection, simple enough right? Wrong.
The reason for my call this last time was that my connection in the other room on my wireless was so slow the pages were always dropping and getting online took 30-45 minutes. The time before this they replaced the modem and all computers were working fine. So the guy comes out and he is 4 hours later than we were told he would be arriving. So he fixes the main computer and tells me that there is no way to hookup a second computer on the internet.
Ok- Now I'm thinking. Wait a minute- I have been connecting with another computer prior to your coming here and now you can't fix it and have multiple computers on the same line. To make matters worse they keep telling me it can't be done. Um- who's the expert supposed to be here? Then they wanted to charge me for the service call. The computers were all working though slow before they got here and now suddenly my computer won't work at all and they have no idea how to fix it. Does that make any sense? They want me to pay for them messing up my computer... As if...
The internet service itself is still bad. Computer pages takes 20 minutes to load and then 9 out of 10 times they get dropped. Connection attempts to get online take 15-20 tries before the signal is picked up etc. In bad weather, the internet is even worse if you can imagine that.
Unfortunately, they really are the only choice for internet here in my area which is why they get away with treating customers horribly. The techs hired really don't know what they're doing as I managed to get my laptop online in about 5 hours, after the tech told me it was impossible to do, even though we had been doing that since Katrina.
