Where do I start with Cox Cable? I have no clue. The bad just out weighs the good in every possible sense. I am a subscriber and have been for years. I live in Rhode Island and unfortunately can not switch to any other company that offers the channels that I like. At the same time I have been considering canceling my whole service.
Currently we get the television service. Digital cable all the way. We get the phone service and the internet service as well. I don't have any gripes about those really. So I am sticking to describing the television service in my review. I will certainly be mentioning the billing as well since we have nothing but issues with it.
My television service:
I am supposed to get a total of 300+ channels, most of which are supposed to be high definition channels. I was also supposed to get three months of a free pay station which was HBO that I selected. I never did get the free HBO for even a day to begin with. The high definition channels do come in great. The only issue I have is that there are very few. I would say about 15 total. Most of these are just plain old public access and basic channels. I wanted much more, and was promised much more but did not get it no matter what I asked or said.
The picture is clear on the other channels. They are certainly not high definition, but they are normally and static free so to speak. However the 300 channels I get are a joke. I am Caucasian. I do not speak Spanish, French or Chinese. But I get the channels that do, and lots of them. Not to mention the endless bible type channels. " I am not now, nor have I ever been religious." So these are not my type of channels either. I get double channels. Disney on one channel, the same Disney on another. And dare I ask why? Nope, why bother , Cox has no answers for me. I also get plenty of home shopping channels that I don't use and many versions of the same basic cable stations.
The remote and box go up to 900+ channels. The channles that I do get are speratic. I am not sure to this day which are the ones I will get and which I don't. It is too frustrations having to wait just to get the subscribe screen on the majority of channels. I have a radio, MP3 player, CD player and so on. So why would I need 20+ music channels? I want to watch television not listen to music.
Yes I am griping. I can't help it. I am a mom of two. At the end of the day, I want to chill out and watch some television. The only channels I have watched are Biography, ID, History 1 and 2, LMN, SCI FI and USA. I watched more of them when I had standard basic cable. Is it like this every where? I have no idea. But here in Rhode Island I know many people who complain about it. I keep it and don't switch to Verizon because the package I want is not offered in my area yet. Would I switch if it were? Heck yes, I sure would.
Now here is my all time favorite thing. "Not" It seems that if my family watches Disney and I watch Sci Fi during the day and at night. The following day those two channels say " Temporarily off line" across the screen. This will last days on end. They send some one out. They "fix" it and the next time we watch it, it goes away again. It happens with every channel that we watch on a regular basis but all of the others stay on fine.
To be honest I would love to kick the service all together. But I have to think of my kids. Emmily age six, watches Noggin daily for several shows she loves. Bret age 21 months watches PBS Sprout a lot for Yo Gabba Gabba and Barney. No other service in our area offer these two channels and I would hate to take them away from my kids.
The billing:
Oh my gosh! Awful, awful and even more awful! I get a bill in for television service for $48.99 one month, the following month is is nearly $60.00 when we never order pay per view or add channels or services. There are tons of under line charges. This is not only with television but with phone and internet as well. But mainly, like I said I am sticking to television service for this review. The bill arrives on the 10th and they want the payment by the 12th. They send it too late. I am always late paying, because I pay by money order. This means I get the shaft and they charge me extra. I don't have the time to drop the payment off.
The customer service:
Cox Cable blames every thing but Cox Cable when there is a problem. First it is the box that causes the channels to go out like that. Then they replace the box and it must be some thing we have hooked up to it. Which they checked and saw we had nothing. Then they had no explanation. They say they see it running fine from there. I told them to send a technician out and have him/her check it while they have some one on the phone checking it from Cable but they would not comply with that idea at all.
They charged me a fee every time they came out. the fees were 25-100 dollars per time. I was fuming at them for it. I have four mouths to feed in this house and don't have that kind of extra cash to toss away when they don't even fix the problem. I told them one day that cable was totaly out. It was a Friday morning at 8am when I called. They did not come until Monday evening at 6pm. That is unreal.
Cox Cable customer service is very rude. I have gotten several customer service Representatives who were short tempered and pretty much said there is nothing they can do. I asked one of them how come I don't get the deal on the television stations that I signed up for? Why are there missing channels? Channels that do not work at all? And tons of stuff I did not sign up for. They had no explanation and literally hung the phone up on me.
I have no patience at all for rude, ignorant or uncaring business people. I as there customer should be respected and treated well. Not cut off, lied to and have my money taken from me in all sorts of different ways. I would certainly not recommend Cox Cable as a television service provider. They are flat out the worst people in the history of television service. For us Rhode Islanders. I say "What ever happened to Dimension Cable"?
