Cable Modem two thumbs down

All the hype about the cable modem's reliability and speed are false. I own two modems only because they are better than 56k but DSL is not available in my area. The speeds I have gotten range from less than 1k/sec to a rare 200k/sec. Many people in my area have been fooled by the cable modem's seemingly impressive appearance, but do not judge this book by its cover. I would only encourage someone to buy a cable modem if there are no other options available, otherwise, with decreasing bandwith size due to the increased usage of cable modems, there future is downward.
