What's 6 Times Faster Than Your Internet Dialup Service? Roadrunner!
by Ed.Williamson | Sep 04 '01
Pros: Very, very fast 24/7 internet connections.
Cons: Nothing is perfect: the pipe gets clogged here too at times.

Thanks AVaddict. I live in the El Paso area and here it (Time Warner RR) is still fairly reasonable compared to the second-telephone-charge, the long-distance-service-charge, and the dialup-ISP-charge total. But RR has all this down and they know where to set the screws (uh, that's set-screws I guess) to the consumer. So short of moving from Austin (Silicon Valley South) to Far West Texas you may be stuck until the competition brings down the costs. Thanks again and keep up the great reviews.

RR is the way to go, but hmmm, I live in TX and get my cable and modem service for $127 a month. My brother (in another market), has more channels and a cable modem too, he pays $67 a month....tell me Time Warner isn't gouging! Unfortunately in Austin, they are it. There is no other cable service. There is no other cable modem service. It is a monopoloy and they are quite comfortable with that. No, I'm not bitter. Quite the helpful review Ed!

Yep. a LAN is a LOCAL AREA NETWORK which is commonly a term applied in business computering but the same can be said in a residence situation.
If you have a newtork in a home you have a LAN. And it sounds like you have things pretty good!

Love It (Reply to this comment)

I have had mine for months now and love it. I find I use the internet much more for information than when I had AOL. I just did not have the patience for AOL.
I don't know what a LAN is, but we have our two computers networked, thanks to my son-in-law. Is that the same thing?

I know just what you mean about the slow dial up connection because of the lousy phone lines. I have a 56k modem, and the best I can connect at is 28.8, and it is usually slower than that. I have kind of gotten use to how slow this thing is, but it is still annoying.
