| LieutPage's Full Review: Time Warner Cable |
I moved to North Carolina about two years ago and I have to say, my old cable company wasn't hot, but Time Warner really, really sucks! I don't know how else to put it.
When I first moved in I called to have it hooked up and got my appointed time window. I waited around and an hour or so after the window was up I left to do my other moving in errands. Upon returning I had a not saying they showed up and no one was home. So I called back, told them I waited around and they were the ones who were late. After arguing with them pointlessly, I had to reschedule and wait two more weeks. I waited around the next day they said they would show up and they actually did this time!
After the guy messed around for a while he said that my line wasn't working and that if I wanted cable I would have to pay a fee of 150 dollars to have a new line put in! Why should I have to pay because their line is broken? I don't think I broke it and my lease said very clearly "cable ready". I would presume this to mean that I hook up the cable line to the TV and I get my cable programming. After pleading with my sagging trousered friend I convinced him to put forth a little more effort. He took two screws out of the wall outlet, pulled on the connection, plugged my cord in and *POOF* I had cable. I wonder what kind of commission he gets for hooking up a new line?
Now I have my cable, but I sometimes wonder why I bother. It seems like every month or so it goes out, and some channels are grainy all the time! On top of that, I get about 45 channels, but 5 of them are shopping channels, 9 are sports channels and 10 of them are news channels! That leaves me with 21 channels of which I think 6 are actually interesting. And to top it all off, I pay over 40 dollars a month for it with my rates increasing every other month or so. That's no exaggeration either, I started out paying 33 dollars a month in Sept '98, now I pay 42 dollars a month for the same channels. I also had to pay a 100 dollar deposit because we are military people. So much for serving your country, huh?
Yes, I do a lot of complaining, and some of you wonder why I bother having cable at all. Well, there are certain channels I can't do without, like the History Channel, Discovery, and Comedy Central. If not for these fine channels, I would not have cable at all. If there was another cable company around, I would go over to them, but there isn't. I live in the middle of nowhere and I must suffer for 3 channels.
You may call me stupid, call me what you will, but this review isn't about my lack of common sense, it's about a very bad cable company.
