Pros: Price! Especially for its specs.
Cons: Cheap speakers & keyboard (but these can be upgraded very easily & economically).
The Bottom Line: I'd buy another one again (though it looks like I won't need to for a while).

| averagejo's Full Review: eMachines eMonster 550 PC Desktop |
I normally dont write online reviews, but felt compelled to share my experience about this somewhat lesser-known brand. I purchased the eMachines eMonster 550 for $899 at Best Buy about two years ago after. I did a ton of research before choosing to buy what I considered a no-name brand (and would have otherwise looked at Gateway or Dell). I heard/read nothing but good things about the eMonster, and the price was so great, so I held my breath and bought it (with, of course, Best Buys biggest baddest warranty plan which we never actually needed).
I have to say, even after two years, this computer has served me and my household well (better than expected). I had read that eMachines cuts costs in extraneous hardware such as casing, keyboard, speakers, mouse, etc. in order to offer the internal specs of a more powerful machine at lower costs (you can see this in the speakers, which do look and sound, well, cheap, and the letters on the keyboard are starting to fade, but we use the computer ALOT).
The computer itself works beautifully. Its fast, powerful and was definitely made for gaming. In two years of much family abuse, it has frozen up very occasionally (mostly because we tend to run way too many programs at once). It performs circles around the Hewlett Packard we owned previously (the demise of which was the reason for the new purchase), and the price is incomparable - especially for the specs the eMonster carries: Intel Pentium III 550MHz, 64MB SyncDRAM 256MB Max, nVidia RIVA TNT2 Vanta 2x AGP w/ 8MB SDRAM, Crystal CS4280 3D PCI Audio, 512KB L2 Cache 100MHz System Bus, 15GB HDD, 8x Max. DVD-ROM, 3D AGP Graphics 8MB Video, 128bit TNT2, USB & Game PORTS. - (All for $899).
