Pros: It is a excellent basic general purpose utility light.
Cons: May crack after many repeated drops.
The Eveready® Utility Lantern is made by Energizer® Holding Company and dollar to dollar spent on this 6 Volt lantern makes this a best buy for the features and quality you receive with this American made product. Do not be fooled or swayed by the tune of replacement 6 Volt battery costing more than the one you get for free (which is a Super Heavy Duty Battery Eveready 6 Volt that is a cheap / inexpensive battery because it does not have the endurance of an Alkaline 6 Volt or NI-MH [Rechargeable] 6 Volt or a Lead Acid 6 Volt Rechargeable) as that is rather misleading, since other brands exist and always price shop first via online thru Epinions.com to start with then check your local stores that sells batteries.
The manufactuer's suggested retail price is $6.99 (the last time I checked and may vary from region to another region or even time of year); however, you should be able to buy it for less than four dollars before taxes.
I have found this to be good for general use around in the household or out camping.
When I have used it for camping I enjoyed using it, but needs a modification to be truly waterproof or better yet simply by a higher dollar cost 6 Volt Lantern Flashlight that is already waterproof. While camping I used it in light rain and mist with no problems. I would suggest or recommend using a lighter flashlight if you intend on hiking due to weight and how the handle feels (rather uncomfortable) after gripping / holding for about one hour.
I have used this in and around the house many times from simple basic use to using during power outages from hurricanes, thunderstorms, other severe weather, downed power poles from auto accidents, and brown outs.
The one I am reviewing the battery was an old super heavy duty six volt that was going to expire in a week approximately before first using and I got close to fifty minutes of light, but only the first twenty minutes of use was of acceptable level of light output. I do not blame the manufacturer, but myself for not and the store I bought it from for not checking the expiration of the battery; however, that much out of a light / battery combo is quite good with age of battery, type of battery, and hot humid weather.
So ultimately a good value.
I most certainly and highly recommend buying and using the Eveready Six Volt Lantern Battery Flashlight for around the house to light camping uses.
