Pros: Many features for such an in-expensive printer (see review for detals)
Cons: Slow, clunky and difficult to open trays, limited paper capacity (see review for details)
The Epson XP-600 is a low cost (Approx $130.00) printer that has reasonable quality for the price and produces excellent results. Not an all in one printer but features standard, photos, CD/DVD printing and scanning and a very small footprint.
Tested in Windows XP and Windows 7 without errors.
If you require an all in one printer consider the XP-800 which is basically the same printer with built in autofeeder and fax capability for only a few bucks more.
The good points:
Many features for such an in-expensive printer:
Flatbed scanner that allows copying
Wifi and USB interface (you must provide you own usb cable)
Life like and accurate photo printing results
Multiple size paper and photo paper support with duplex printing
Prints directly to CD's and DVD's (using printable media)
Built in SD/MS Memory card reader, print photos directly from front panel
Complete (but slightly bloated) control software included.
The bad Points:
Not very fast and limited paper holding capacity.
Paper output tray does not automatically deploy like in the XP800, it is difficult to pull out and return to its closed position. If you try to print to the printer with this closed an error message will result. If your printing from a remote PC you will need to keep the tray open all the time otherwise your print requests will fail. (This is my biggest gripe)
Printing directly on CD's or DVD's require the use of a holder, the printer must be set up (front panel selections) manually and the holder inserted than you can use the application to print to the disc's. Slightly labor intensive.
As with most inkjet printers the standard cartridges used in this printer are expensive (about $15.00 each, 5 cartridges) and are only rated for about 500 sheets.
I one point during the installation I needed to call tech support. I was not impressed with the knowledge of the specialist I talked to and ended up getting my answer via an internet search.
One thing I noticed is that this printer does not like to print on HP photo paper. The ink seem to coagulate into droplets, this might be design intent so not to use the competetors products.
Finally, would I recommend this printer to a friend, YES. It will provide reasonable good results and based on the price is a good purchase. It should be considered a low to medium use printer.
