If there ever was a small town brewery that was going to make headlines in the world of beers, Bell's (Kalamazoo Brewing) would be it. Larry Bell who is the owner has really turned Kalamazoo into a beer haven. His facilities for taste testing are cozy and the beer garden in the back yard is a great place to hear local music and drink a pint of very tasty beer.
The beermeisters really know their stuff, using high quality ingredients and tasting every barrel for quality. They are hammered most of the time due to their constant drinking of great beer, but they are very happy. Bell's summer and winterbrews are fantastic and being from the city I am not partial at all, a microbrew connoisseur, this stuff is really good. Their beers are not very carbonated but still have a good head.
The only problem that I have with the brewery is that they send all of the best batches of beer out to the big cities. If you are in Chicago or Detroit you will be tasting the best of the best Bell's beer.
If you really want a nice vacation to get hammered and meet some really nice people go to Kalamazoo and stop downtown for a great beer.
