| kodoz's Full Review: Samuel Adams (Boston Beer Company) |
I'm not going to take away from bkprewitt's excellent review of the brew tour, but hope to add a little to it. Even if you really don't care much for the stock ale and Boston ale, taking the tour is something I've done... many times. You might think that getting to the tasting room would be the only reason to go, but actually being in the brew room among the tanks is pretty awesome. All Sam Adams specialty brews are done in just a few, relatively small tanks there in Jamaica Plain.
During the tour, you'll also get a chance to see the raw ingredients. A cup of hops are passed around, but really the neatest part is getting to smell and sample the grains-- especially getting to see how the color and taste affects the final product.
The tastings are always fun-- never been let down there! If you can, tour the brewery when the triple bock is out-- around November/December. This really isn't a beer, more of a malt wine. Its hard to get a hold of since very little is brewed, but worth trying if its available during the tour.
After the tour, there's a shuttle bus to a local pub- Doyle's. A lot of what leaves BBC ends up there, and a few pints at Doyle's is a natural conclusion to the tour.
If you're planning a trip to Boston, skip the Duck tours or some squat like that and visit Sammy's.
