fuche_bu's Full Review: Arbor Mist Strawberry White Zinfandel
Okay, let's just start off by saying that I am not necessarily proud of myself for being in a position that I am able to write this review. I shudder to think of how my masculinity will be called into question after it is revealed that I have indulged in such a "chick drink." I will likely complete this review and then go sit in a corner and hang my head in shame.
But first let me make an earnest attempt to reclaim my gonads. The bottle of Arbor Mist Strawberry White Zinfindel was left in my fridge by a party guest. I did not part with any money. If I get two cents of income share for the review, I'll have turned a hefty profit. There was half a bottle in my fridge that had been sitting there for over a month. I got curious and figured that I would like to explore.
I do enjoy the occasional glass of wine but I am obviously more of a beer man. I had heard of Arbor Mist because I own a television set and have seen commercials. My main impression of this company is that they make beverage wines predominantly for a female clientele.
I have enjoyed several white zinfindels in the past so I was interested to see what a strawberry variation would taste like. I found wine glass and poured myself a drink. This wine has an almost pink hue. It is very well carbonated and bubbly. I wasn't really picking up a lot of strawberry in the aroma. It had more of a typical slightly sweet zinfindel aroma.
The strawberry does assert itself more in the flavor. I was picking up a somewhat sweet but also slightly tart nuance in the flavor. I wasn't picking up a lot of complexity in the taste. I don't really think the wine makers were going for that. This is designed to be more of a beverage wine. That is likely a rather lucrative market because there does not seem to be any shortage of people who merely want a pleasant drink that does not challenge their taste buds in any way.
This wine from upstate New York certainly does fit that bill. I can not honestly say that I dislike this drink. In fact, I found it to be pleasant and nice to drink. I can see where this could be consumed in large quantity in one sitting by some drinkers. I myself find it a little too sweet to have more than one or two but it is light and easy to drink.
It weighs in at 6% abv so it is rather low for a wine. This is obviously something made for people who aren't really serious about wine. I am not likely to run out and buy a bottle of this stuff anytime soon but I would not be upset were a guest to leave some in my fridge again.
I actually will recommend this one. It's not very offensive and will appeal to at least some guests that find their way over. It's like a number of fruit beers that I have tried. I don't find them to be anything spectacular but they are nice as a change of pace. This is not something that I will seek out but it was nice to enjoy as something different.
