Starrrynit's Full Review: Arbor Mist Strawberry White Zinfandel
BUNCO! I belong to a Women's Club that meet monthly for a rousing game of Bunco. Most of them are not drinkers by any standard and do not regularly drink wine. My friends, however, loosen up at our Bunco tournaments. When I held our get-together last Fall, I was in a quandary over what kind of alcoholic beverage to serve these ladies. A few of them, including myself, are beer and wine drinkers and not a problem to please. What to do about the rest of my group? What to do, what to do?!?!?
Choosing the safest route, I picked up a couple 750 ml bottles of Arbor Mist Strawberry White Zinfandel. At $4 a bottle, how could I go wrong? It is a light, fruity-tasting refreshment with a wine-like (is that a word?) kick. I use the word "wine-like" because, I think, it is not a "real" wine. Arbor Mist is a drier wine cooler in a screw top bottle.
Yes, a screw top bottle. Is this a bad thing? Not really. The manufacturers' home page explains it well at www. Arbormist.com. The company is marketing their product as a low alcohol content wine beverage targeted at people who wanted an alternative to over sweetened wine coolers. They say that many consumers wanted an easy to drink wine that was a step up from Boone's Farm and wine coolers but less expensive and complicated than the latest Merlot.
Don't get me wrong . . . I do enjoy a classic vintage now and then. However, occasions do occur when a vintage ale is not suitable. Large family gatherings, office parties, and a Mom's Night Out definitely come to mind. The people attending do not expect the host to shell out a great deal of money for wine. That is the beauty of Arbor Mist! It is a simple, fruity wine that I would definitely serve my friends when they are over at the house on a hot summer night.
I previously mentioned the winery has a home page. It is very cool. It explains the different types of wine they offer and different uses for their product. For example, Arbor Mist can be served chilled by itself in a glass, on the rocks, as a base in a punch, and as a mixer for mixed drinks! Arbor Mists' web page has recipes and great ideas to use for your next family function. Conveniently, Arbor Mist offers three different sizes: 750 ml, 1.5 ml, and 375 ml.
Arbor Mist offers many other flavors of wine beside Strawberry. I may try two new ones: Blackberry Merlot and Cranberry Twist White Merlot.
Briefly, Arbor Mist Strawberry White Zinfandel is both a "Wine for Non-wine Drinkers" and a "Wine Cooler for Snobs." Figure out which category you fit into and try it. It just may pleasantly surprise you.
