Can You Drink For Less Than This? ~Stealth Write Off~

Written: Apr 10 '02
Pros:VERY CHEAP! Bubbly taste
Cons:Some may find it too bitter/too sweet
The Bottom Line: Great bang for the buck if you like wine-cooler-type drinks.

Stealth Write Off: Please read the entire review, followed by the information at the bottom. Let me apologize for my tardiness in this posting as I was back home from a week away from my computer.

The leading beverage wine providing great fruit taste and refreshment with excellent value.

Got a dollar?
How ‘bout two? If so you should have enough for a bottle of this fruity carbonated drink. When looking for a cheap drink that almost anyone won’t mind drinking keep this review in mind. Boone’s farm has many flavors that should suite just about anyone. It’s completely understood that with a “wine” this cheap you won’t be getting anything special or expensive tasting. However, try drinking a few shots beforehand and you might think it’s a $50 bottle of aged wine. ;)

Flavors
E & J Gallo Winery in California produce Boone’s Farm wines and alcohol content varies with flavor. If I remember right, most are around 7%. The flavors include the ever so popular Strawberry Hill, Wild Island, Sangria, Peach, Apple, Strawberry Daiquiri, Tropical, Strawberry Kiwi and probably a few more that I don’t even know about. I’ve tasted a few and my favorite has to be Sangria. It has such a mixture of fruity flavors. With most of the Boone’s Farm wines you will think you are drinking a carbonated fruit drink-not alcohol. This is probably why I liked it. I’m not a big drinker-partly because I am underage (oh shush) and also because it alcohol usually gives me headaches.

Yeah Yeah....
If you want to get technical, it’s not really wine. Boone’s Farm is a "malt beverage with natural flavors, but who cares right? :) This is a great drink for those who aren’t drinking to get drunk. Some people can’t handle a glass of anything, with Boone’s Farm you should be okay with even 2 glasses.

Nutri-Facts
Most bottles of Boone’s are packed with about 500 calories, 70 grams of sugar, no fat and about 80 grams of carbohydrates. Once you realize how much sugar is in this stuff, you'll understand where the sweetness comes from!

How to Drink
To avoid any bitterness, serve extremely cold and with ice if you’d like. I’ve heard of people making slushes and mixed drinks using Boone’s Farm as the main ingredient. So be bold, discover your own drink by adding your favorite liquor.

A Brief History
After reading around I noticed quite a few stories about how Boone’s Farm came about. The one I liked best talked about how Parker left a jug of apple cider on his front porch for almost 2 months. He returned home and took a big swig and loved the taste. He quickly marketed the grain alcohol as “Daniel Boone’s Farm Apple Cider”. It was a big hit and spread like crazy through the Southland. Later a California company snatched up the product and changed the name to Boone's Farm. Exciting isn’t it?! :o)

Overall
I’m sure you can find a million other wines that are better than Boone’s Farm, but you won’t find many much cheaper. I’m guessing you will find at least one of the Boone’s Farm wines that you enjoy drinking, if not feel free to blame me! If you have a sensitive stomach, have some tums in hand. Otherwise, sit back and enjoy your cheap “wine”.

This review is a toast to a good friend Peter, SMITHSWOODSIDE, who was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Quite a scare when he didn’t know how long he’d be with us. Be happy Peter, I broke a law to write this review! Word for the moment is that he will stay with us for some time with daily injections. I wish you the very best Peter, and don’t know what I’d do without the Important Questions of the Day you shoot out weekly, heh. Not to mention me having to answer wrong every bloody time in fear of upsetting you, LOL. Onya Peter-you are a great person and an asset to Epinions.
