Castello Banfi's Summus is fantastic

Written: May 08 '01
Pros:Complex aroma and flavorful finish make this a wonderful experience.
Cons:Expensive to purchase in the USA, and fairly difficult to locate.
The Bottom Line: Buy it, store it for a year or two and then enjoy it on memorable occasions! It will make them even better!

This is certainly my all-time favorite wine. It has an intense color and a nice spicy aroma. It is complex and has good tannins making this an especially wonderful wine. The long finish allows you to completely enjoy all the richness of this super Tuscan blend. There are flavors of oak and currants in this wine that truly enhance its already impressive taste.

I recommend it with hearty meals, such as red meats, pasta's and wintery dinners. On a cold night in January, this wine combined with a nice bowl of riboletta ensures a warm evening!

This wine is fairly expensive when purchased in the USA. When I am able to locate it, the 1997 vintage retails in the $60.00 (US) range. There are stray bottles of older vintages, such as the 1993, and they tend to cost a few dollars less.
