Unbelievably Delectable Pinot Noir
Written: Dec 27 '99
Pros:Strong, flavorful, powerful red that you'll remember!
Cons:None, unless you're a sweet white wine fan.
The 1997 Sokol Blosser Pinot Noir, and its equal, the 1996 version, are unbelievably delicious, precocious wines that jolt the senses with strong, passionate flavors and scents. This is not a light, delicate wine! Pinot Noir is known for strong personality, and this one delivers above and beyond expectations. The predominant first note is dark cherry, followed by an oaky dryness that is nicely low on tannin. It rounds off with lighter, warm florals and citrus fruits with a touch of vanilla to mellow out the sharpness. This wine goes well with strong foods--we have enjoyed it with a hearty New York Strip tenderloin steak with lots of garlic, loin of pork, and heavily flavored Italian, and enjoyed it completely. At prices in the mid-teens, this is a great wine for a special occasion with true red wine lovers who aren't afraid to experiment with an unusually powerful, hard-hitting, exceptionally flavorful wine.
