Pros: Cash back, excellent fraud department.
Cons: Mediocre web site. Not as much info as some others.
The Bottom Line: It's OK, until you have a problem that requires support. I don't know if it's enough to make me quit using it, but it could be better.

| jaj54's Full Review: Discover Card |
Until recently I've been extremely pleased by Discover. We always pay our bill in full each month and the cash back is nice. But...
I recently had an experience where a merchant entered the wrong value for the amount (this was a phone transaction and I was paying college tuition for my child). The wrong value was wrong by A LOT and caused me to go over my credit limit. This was caught by the fraud department who called me and asked if it was legit. Anyhow, I went to the web site and it said I had no available credit, but the transaction history gave me no clue as to why (Discover doesn't display pending transactions - my other card does). The merchant was closed for the day when to problem was discovered, so I was going to have to wait until the next day to get it fixed. The problem was that I have a couple of small periodic bills that are automatically charged and these would get rejected if I was over my limit. So I called Discover to see if I could get a short term credit line increase of $500 to cover the amount we were over, plus an additional amount to cover the incoming bills. They basically it would take several days (which would be too late). The person then said I could go to a local Sears store and make a payment, which would be credited immediately (I couldn't pay on the web site because you can only use that payment mode once every 8 days, and I had just paid my monthly bill). We did that first thing the next morning and also got with the merchant to get a correction submitted. Life is good, right? Well, 24 hours later we are STILL over the limit, so I call Discover again and explain the situation. I finally got a hold of a nice young lady who fixed the problem... but as of 36 hours later I still don't see any transactions on the web site. In addition, the web site lets you get emails about due dates, near credit limit, large transactions, payment postings, etc. I got the near credit limit 48 hours after the problem and I still haven't gotten anything for the large transaction or the payment!
